After the pandemic cancelled Christmas in 2020, students from LS18 Rocks produced the charity single ‘Virtual Hugs’, taking inspiration from the 1980s classic of ‘There’s No One Quite Like You Grandma’ as a gift to their grandparents. The song become a collaboration between the kids at LS18, with many taking the chance to record parts on the song. Virtual Hugs became a hit and caught the attention of BBC Breakfast, BBC Look North, Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and many national and international newspapers. The music video featured members of our music school and their grandparents singing along and we were able to raise over £1000 to support local projects supporting the elderly in our community.
